Four members of a family who were on their way to attend a funeral lost their lives in a fatal accident involving the bus they were commuting in and a tipper loaded with sand along the Ogidi-Abatete road in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Friday, June 11.
According to eyewitnesses, the tipper suffered a burst tyre and the driver lost control of the wheel, causing him to crash into the bus that was conveying the deceased and 15 others.
Confirming the accident, the Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Pascal Anigbo, said the remains of the deceased persons have been deposited in the morgue while the injured were receiving treatment.
“At about 5.20pm on Friday 12 June, 2020 we received a distress call on a fatal Road Traffic Crash (RTC) which occurred at about 5.15pm near Buckie Polytechnic, along Ogidi-Abatete road. FRSC rescue team from Nteje Unit Command were immediately dispatched to the scene of the crash.
The crash involved a Mercedes Benz 608 with registration number AA205DMA driven by one Ezeugwu Christopher and a Mercedes Benz Tipper with enlistment number XD651GDD, drivers name given as FC Ugwumba.
Casualties involved included, Seventeen (17) adult males, One (1) female adult and One (1) female child. Totalling Nineteen (19).They were all rushed to Twinkle Hospital, Ogidi by members of the community.
Six (6) male adult victims in critical condition were referred to Iyi-Enu Specialist Hospital, Ogidi. Information reaching us after a Hospital Follow-Up today Saturday 13 June, 2020 states that Four (4) have been confirmed dead by doctors at Iyi-Enu Specialist Hospital and their corpses deposited at the hospital morgue.
The Sector Commander FRSC, Andrew Kumapayi condole with the family of the deceased and wishes the injured victims quick recovery, warning vehicle owners and drivers against the use of expired or worn-out tyres, particularly during rainy season. He equally advises that only brand new tyres should be used in vehicles as most fairly used tyres, popularly called tokumbo tyres are expired” he said
An accident that could have claimed the lives of many people occurred along the Ijora under the bridge this afternoon June 12.
A gas tank attached to a truck detached itself and fell off the bridge. Thankfully, no one was under the bridge when it landed.
Men of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority LASTMA have since arrived at the scene to manage the traffic resulting from the accident. Efforts are being made to remove the gas tank from the road.

The pair, Maybeth Espinoz, and Hector Vidal were on their way home from a nightclub in Cusco last Saturday when they tragically plunged 50ft off the Bethlehem Bridge just after 1 am.
In the disturbing footage, Maybeth and Hector were leaning against a railing on the bridge, while hugging and kissing each other. Maybeth, 34, was sitting on top of the metal railing with her legs wrapped around Hector, 36.
During the public display of affection, Maybeth lost her balance and began to fall backward, taking Hector along with her.
According to Panamerica, Maybeth was killed outright, while Hector sustained a fractured skull and later died in hospital. The couple were mountaineers who had moved to the Cusco region to work as tour guides.
Their bodies have since been transferred to Ancash in northern Peru.
Tragedy struck at a South Korean nightclub, as two died while 16 others were injured after the facility’s balcony collapsed.
Hundreds were at the nightclub in the southern city of Gwangju when the collapse occurred next to the athletes’ village where a world swimming championshipis ongoing. Eight athletes including an Olympic gold medallist, US water polo player Kaleigh Gilchrist who won at the Rio Games, were caught up in the tragedy. Cell phone video showed people literally holding up the balcony to try to prevent it from falling.
“An internal balcony collapsed at a club in Gwangju, killing two,” said Song Gi-ju, a detective with the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency.
“We have a total of 16 injured and among them ten are foreigners. Of the ten, eight are athletes participating in the championships.”
The police are already investigating possibility of the balcony being constructed illegally, as it was learnt that the two people that died in the incident were locals who were not involved in the swimming championships. The eight injured athletes include three Americans, two New Zealanders, one Dutch, one Brazilian and one Italian.
“This is an awful tragedy,” said Christopher Ramsey, CEO of USA Water Polo. “Players from our men’s and women’s teams were celebrating the women’s world championship victory when the collapse occurred at a public club. Our hearts go out to the victims of the crash and their families.”
The local organizing committee for the world swimming championships said that eight of the athletes attending the event were injured, most slightly. Personal information about the athletes were not disclosed, at the request of their national teams.
42 year-old Lance Corporal James Yaw Appiah a.k.a “Antoa Cupers”, left his family heartbroken following news of his death which came two weeks to his wedding.
The policeman attached to the police unit in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, Ghana, was found dead in his tent at a police duty point near the Bawku Government Hospital on the last day of a monthly rotational police operation that had sent him to the town.

“They are deliberately keeping the body at Bawku so that it would get rotten in order to conceal the evidence that could be adduced from the postmortem”, he said, accusing the Upper East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ampofo Duku of conspiring to get his nephew killed, because he told me to “do whatever I want or please myself” when I threatened to make the matter public.”
He is reportedly survived by two kids from his previous relationship, and his fiancee he was to get married to.

One celebrity who has expressed his shock over Henry’s death is Yul Edochie. The movie star took to his Instagram page on Saturday, May 11, 2019, where he shared a photo of Henry Okoro and himself. He went on to caption the photo an emotional eulogy.
“Me and Henry, about 10yrs ago. I’m so heartbroken. Can’t believe you are gone. Don Sniff. Guy man. Hustler. Good guy. Ezigbo mmadu. Great soul. R.I.P bro,” he wrote.

A member of the Nigerian Army, Private Akhigbe Tijani attached to 27 taskforce brigade has been arrested by the Yobe state police command for forcefully having sexual intercourse with a lady in presence of her parents.
He was said to be on operation with his colleague when he committed the crime.
Not satisfied with himself, he was also said to have instructed the lady’s brother to have sex with the lady.
He reportedly hit the boy with a pestle on the head for his reluctance to carry out his instruction.
Consequently, his colleague was said to have reported him at the station where he was court-martial and dismissed from service.
