5 things you should watch out for in ‘The Lion King’ remake

As ‘The Lion King’ opens in cinemas across the world, here’s a list of five things to watch out for.

'The Lion King' remake brings back nostalgic memories of the characters that include Simba, Mufasa, Scar, Rafiki, Timone and Pumbaa. [Entertainment Weekly]
25 years after Disney held the world spellbound with its spectacular animated movie, ‘Lion King, the remake returns to screen.

The remake of the classic movie has cashed in on the nostalgic feeling from viewers since the release of the teaser and official trailers.

‘The Lion King’ is a story about succession, monarchies, sex, and death all wrapped around characters that include large cats, warthogs, meerkats, and the Circle of Life.

Here’s a list of five things to look out for as the ‘Lion King’ opens in cinemas.

1. Circle of Life

Lion King [gamespot]

The first scene of the 2019 remake of ‘The Lion King’ is – as expected – the circle of life. The remake of the 1994 classic opens with the whole savannah gathering to watch a young Simba been presented by Rafiki as the crowned prince and future king of the pride land. The pretty stirring sequence has Lindiwe Mkhize singing to the whole operatic journey that is The Lion King. The opening scene is more characterised with sunsets and running animals and animals in the pride land while the song serenades through.

2. The comedy

The humour infused in the original ‘The Lion King’ remains relevant in the 2019 remake of the classic movie. Viewers will have a field day laughing at some of the dialogue in the movie, which has over 43 million views after the official trailer was released in April 2019. Despite the lessons to be learnt from the classic, the comedy remains an integral part of it.

3. Chiwetel Ejiofor sings

For Nigerian-British actor, Chiwetel Ejiofor, the lessons learnt at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art was brought to the fore in the ‘Lion King’. Taking on the crucial role of ‘Scar’ in the 2019 remake of the classic, Ejiofor was tasked with singing the iconic villain song, ‘Be Prepared’. Compared to the rendition of the song in 1994 by Jeremy Irons, Ejiofor sings the villain song as a more menacing Scar.

Scar with other lions [The Independent]

With the theatrics and humor out of the song, Scar’s myopic, grand ambition and obsession with power become the highlights of the song for the 2019 remake. Ejiofor’s performance as Scar, a menacing brother to Mufasa remains remarkable. Ejiofor’s Scar is very different. It is more menacing, and not only believes himself to be the rightful king but he even once challenged Mufasa for the crown and lost. Ejiofor is angrier, more malevolent, and more terrifying.

4. Timon, Pumbaa, and Mufasa

Timon and Pumbaa [Vice]

The comedy in the remake of ‘The Lion King’ is complemented by the scenes featuring Timon and Pumbaa. From the hilarious banters between Timon played by Billy Eichner and Pumbaa played by Seth Rogen, a little surprise awaits audience across the world. Though comedy isn’t the primary aim of ‘The Lion King,’ the appearance of Timon and Pumbaa lightens up the moment. The first appearance of Timon and Pumbaa in ‘The Lion King,’ sees the pair injecting some levity into the movie which has gotten dark after the death of Mufasa. Simba is left in despair and as he tries to understand the whole issue, Pumbaa and Timon show up to lighten the scene.

5. Picture perfect characters

Viewers will enjoy the beautiful look of characters in the ‘The Lion King’. The 2019 remake stands tall as a beautiful movie and the best nature documentary ever made with each animal portrayed in a nearly surreal level of photorealism. Though this has a conflicting sight when Nala, Simba, Timon and Pumba sing, the more impressive parts are when the visuals can stand on their own without the Disney songs. A scene viewers will fall in love with aside the circle of life is the earth-shaking avalanche of wildebeests in the stampede scene.

Cossy Ojiakor tasks journalists to interview producer of the controversial movie where she ‘had sex with a dog’ to find out the truth and expose journalist Tunde Moshood

Cossy Ojiakor tasks journalists to interview producer of the controversial movie where she

Cossy Ojiakor is bent on clearing her name and getting justice for a wrong she believes was done to her years ago, which derailed her career.

Cossy Ojiakor acted in a movie, Itohan, where she simulated having sex with a dog. The story was published by Journalist Moshood at the time but it was written to look like she really had sex with the dog. Cossy accused former friend Halima Abubakar of being the one who prompted Tunde Moshood to publish the damaging story.

In recent weeks, Cossy has been speaking up and calling out both Moshood and Halima Abubakar. But Moshood replied and seemingly insisted Cossy truly had sex with a dog. He shared a video to Instagram to prove this. But viewers pointed out that it doesn’t show any form of penetration.

Now, Cossy is tasking Nigerian journalists to go the extra mile to interview the producer of Itohan to find out what truly happened. She dropped the name of the producer and asked that the truth be uncovered.

When asked why she’s just speaking up, Cossy said at the time the damaging article was published, there was no social media so she didn’t have a platform to refute the claims and give her side of the story.

See Cossy’s latest say on the matter.

Kalu Ikeagwu and Beverly Naya are on ‘Lockdown’ in new thriller’s trailer

“Many people will die,” were the chilling words heard by Kalu Ikeagwu in the new action thriller, ‘Lockdown’.

Ladi Akinyosoye’s Olumo Rock Pictures has debuted the first official trailer for his new film, ‘Lockdown,’ and it’s nothing like usual.

The scenes from the 2mins long trailer seem like a movie straight out of the 90s with fresh and clean pictures.

Kalu Ikeagwu stars as Sola Roberts, the head of Quarterly Bank of Commerce, which is under siege after a criminal gang held staff members hostage during a heist.

The short trailer also features Beverly Naya as Abigail, a bank official with special military training who manages to help secure the release of her colleagues during the heist.

With the role, Naya’s brilliance has again been called to action as she immerses herself in the role that is most times seen in a Hollywood movie. Obviously thrilled and happy with her performance, Naya is looking forward to many of her fans seeing her interpretation of the role of Abigail, a junior manager with a military background.

From the trailer, the film appears like another one of those formulaic action movies where the filmmaker plugs in all the usual tropes.

Kalu is threatened to take an unbelievable offer of the gang, who held the bank under siege and Beverly would not see him taking the offer, which is absurd.

However, the criminal gang is hell-bent on carrying out their operations to open the vault before daybreak at the expense of the lives of the staff.

The film also features Linda Ejiofor as Janet, Kalu Ikeagwu’s love interest. The trailer also revealed a few scenes showing the lovers sharing some form of intimacy in the workplace. The two enjoy an office romance that had to be kept away from prying eyes. Ejiofor’s role brings to mind her role in Rita Dominic’s ‘The Meeting’ but in a totally different light.

Also starring in ‘Lockdown’ are Kelechi Udegbe, Jude Chukwuka, Bucci Franklin, Harry Dorgu, Jerry Bakpa, Tunbosun Aiyedehin, and Tomi Fabamigbe, with appearances by Dele Odule, Sola Onayiga, and Tallulah Doherty.

Ladi Akinyosoye made his entry into Nollywood with his 2015 motion picture ‘Beneficence’ after working on a TV show, The Apprentice Africa as a production coordinator.

‘Lockdown’ follows the story a group of people trapped in Quarterly Bank of Commerce. The Junior manager, the managing director, the mistress and security among them, locked in the bank overnight during the festive season with no route to escape. The criminal gang is determined to open the vault before daybreak.

Written by Labake and Ladi Akinyosoye, ‘Lockdown’ is produced by Labake Akinyosoye and opens in cinemas on September 20.

‘Muna’ official trailer shows that Adesua Etomi-Wellington is ready for global stage

Adesua Etomi-Wellington proves that she's set for the global stage as she plays Muna in new film, 'Muna' [Instagram/Munathemovie]

On June 3, KevStel TV released the full-length trailer for Kevin Nwankwor’s action-packed film, ‘Muna’ and Adesua gave her best.

Interestingly, the film looks like it’ll be great, capturing Adesua in full display of her seemingly acquired martial art skills.

With several months having passed since the fans of Mrs. Wellington got wind of her preparation for the role of an all grown Muna, it’s time to revisit the possibility of her pulling it off now that the footage proves she might be ready for the global stage.

Adesua Etomi-Wellington displays her martial art skills as Muna in new film, ‘Muna’ [Instagram/Adesua Etomi-Wellington]

When the first images of Adesua’s character (Muna) surfaced on her Instagram page back in July 2017, it sent shivers down the spines of her fans. The ‘Wedding Party’ star explained how her physical theatre training had helped her with the role after eight years. Not many of her contemporaries or senior colleagues would have pulled this off with the scenes seen in the 2:24 long official trailer.

From comments on the YouTube page to Adesua’s official Instagram pages, the accolades were genuine and the overwhelming belief of Nollywood’s inability to get the martial art and few other techniques right might have just been broken.

More to the point, Adesua’s professional training from City College Coventry, the United Kingdom where she obtained a diploma in “physical theatre, musical theatre and performing arts” is surely an added advantage that might have set her for global recognition with her performance in the film, ‘Muna’.

The official trailer further lends a voice to the issue of human trafficking – which has been the theme of a number of Nollywood movies. Muna, who finds love after being trafficked to Europe has come of age and learned new skills to help confront the human trafficking ring that has various individuals from different races across the world.

Adesua Etomi-Wellington takes on a new role that might change her career for the best. [Instagram/Munathemovie]

‘Muna’ also features a mix of brilliant movie practitioners that include Onyeka Onwenu, Falz, Ebele Okaro, Andrew Onochie, Ikpomwosa Gold, Kor Boakye, Charles Osiegbu, Steve Wilder, Adam Huss, Robert Miano, and Camille Winbush amongst others.

In April 2019, Adesua Etomi was ranked alongside Hollywood’s superstar, Scarlett Johansson as the world’s most famous actresses. In a special article and interview by Vogue magazine with the title, ’14 Countries, 14 Superstars: The Global Actors Who Know No Limits,’ Etomi was ranked alongside Léa Seydoux, Eiza González, Elizabeth Debicki, Angelababy, Deepika Padukone, Bruna Marquezine, and Doona Bae as nine of world’s most famous actresses. Adesua told the world about Nollywood and she is living up to the billing as the famous actress from Nollywood.

Nollywood might not have an Angelina Jolie or Halle Berry, Adesua Etomi-Wellington is poised to place Nollywood on the global stage. [Instagram/Munathemovie]

Nollywood might not have an Angelina Jolieor Halle Berry to pull off some of the needed martial art performances, ‘Muna’s trailer offers assurance that Adesua is going to give a clench-fisting performance that both harkens back to her readiness to take on new challenges in the uncharted territory of the global stage.

Written by Unoma Nwankwor, ‘Muna’ is scheduled for theaters with unbelievable armours at a yet to be disclosed date.

The Plot

‘Muna’ is the story of a spirited girl raised by her grandmother; the last surviving member of their family. Muna’s driving desire to provide a better life for herself and grandmother in the land of milk and honey leads to shady characters that will change the trajectory.

Landing her smack dab into the hands of traffickers. That experience turns her once golden heart into one driven by stone cold revenge on those who stole her innocence. In her grand plan, love was never on the agenda.

When secrets and betrayal complicate her strategy, she has a tough decision to make. Will she remain a prisoner of her past or allow love to set her free?1/1 Muna Official Trailer (2019) #1 #Adesua #Etomi #Wellington #Adam #Huss #Onyeka #Onwenu #Falz #Robert
