Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra State on Monday urged the Federal Government to investigate the alleged murder of Mrs Obianuju Ndubuisi-Chukwu’s in Johannesburg.
Mr Don Adinuba, Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, in a statement advised the Federal Government to prevail on the South African government to act decisively over the murder of the Nigerian, who was the Deputy Director General of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN).
Ndubuisi-Chukwu was found dead in her Emperor Palace Hotel room on Thursday, June 13.
She was reported to have died while attending a meeting of the African Insurance Organisation in the South African commercial capital.
Obiano said: “It has become necessary to request the SGF to personally wade into the killing.
“The police in Johannesburg may be capitalising on the absence of a foreign minister in Nigeria to treat the case with levity.”
According to him, there is report on death of 53-year old indigene of Anambra State, which suggest that the South African police are treating this murder as just another Nigerian’s death.
“It is disheartening that more than three weeks after the dastardly act, the South African police have not deemed it necessary to investigate the heinous crime with the seriousness it deserves.
“Ndubuisi-Chukwu was not an ordinary person, but a top corporate executive who was billed to become chief executive of her organisation in 2020.
“She was representing Nigeria at the meeting in Johannesburg where she met her untimely death,” the governor said.
He said that although the South African Department of Home Affairs had in an autopsy report said that Ndubuisi-Chukwu was strangulated, it was not true.
He described the autopsy report as contradicting an earlier version of the report that suggested that she might have died in her sleep or committed suicide.
Obiano suggested the South African Police should carryout investigation to unearth the person or persons who entered her room after her attendance at the farewell dinner held on Wednesday, June 12.
“The job has been made easier now because Emperor Palace Hotel has agreed to release the CCTV footage to them,” he added.
Obiano promised not to relent in quest for justice over Anambra indigenes whose life is wasted in Nigeria or abroad, saying that Ndubuisi-Chukwu’s death has become subject of intense media scrutiny.
He, however, commended Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, past Chairman, Nigerian Human Rights Commission, on the effort being made to ensure justice is carried out in memory of Ndubuisi-Chukwu, mother of two boys.

Over 50 Nigerians in Diaspora have cried out as AMCON disposes them of their land and properties in Victory Park Estate. Nigerians in Diaspora who bought land and are at different stages of building their Home Coming Buildings and Apartments in Victory Park have woken up to a rude shock as Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) through its Receiver Manager, Mr Lanre Olaoluwa, with the backing of heavily Armed Police Men and Thugs purportedly OPC, have taken over their land and properties in Victory Park Estate, Lekki Lagos.
These Nigerians in Daispora invested in Properties back home in Nigeria for a possible future settlement of their families back in Nigeria. They Invested like most Nigerians in a supposed secured Site and Service Estate that was widely published in major News Papers, Property Magazines, Newsletters and Various Online Platforms.
The Land Registry in Lagos gave an all clear to the lands in Victory Park Estate under Knight Rook; The Banks that gave loan to the Promoters of Victory Park Estate did not register any Charge against the Land in Victory Park at the Land Registry or anywhere else. The Banks had full knowledge that the Awosedo’s (Owners of Knight Rook and Grant Properties) were selling the lands in Victory Park Estate to innocent Nigerians both home and in diaspora.
AMCON, we are told bought over the debt in 2014, and continued to meet with the Awosedo’s to recover the debt without putting out any caveat on the Land, they allowed the Awosedo’s to continue to sell lands to innocent Nigerians. Since negotiations between Awosedo’s, the Banks and AMCON failed, AMCON have now decided to take away the land and properties of the innocent Nigerians that are by law categories as “Bonifide Purchaser for Value without Notice”.
We are in the diaspora; AMCON is an Agency of Government that is meant to protect its citizens from such fraudulent and corrupt practices. We bought our properties long before AMCON put out any notice of its claim to the Assets of the Awosedo’s, which include Knight Rook Limited and Grant Properties Limited. The same Awosedo’s with same registered address owns both Companies. If AMCON is taking over Knight Rook then it must recognize the land sold to Bonafide Purchaser for value.
We don’t have the power and means to fight AMCON, we call on President Buhari and the Vice President Oshinbajo to set up a Commission of enquiry into the Victory Park Fraud on innocent Nigerians which AMCON is a party to as well as some Banks.
If we cannot buy properties in our home country and feel safe from molestation, harassment and fraud, where lies our hope and that of our children?
Please go after the Awosedo’s and the Bank that sold a fraudulent debt to AMCON. We bought our land in good faith and we did proper due diligence that is expected of any reasonable person.

Ali spoke when he played host to a group, Agege Community Media, at the Command Headquarters, in Ikeja.
Mr Mohammed Ali, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Lagos State Police Command, on Tuesday warned traffic robbers and cult members in the state to renounce criminal activities, as the command had resolved to track them down.
Ali spoke when he played host to a group, Agege Community Media, at the Command Headquarters, in Ikeja.
According to him, various proactive crime strategies have been put in place to suppress and clamp down on traffic robbers and cult members in the state.
He said: “Traffic robbers and cultists are criminals. My advice to them is to relocate, out of Lagos, otherwise, we will dislocate them.
“Anyone arrested with be charged to court and end up in prison. Then, life to such person has no meaning.
“So, instead of wasting your life as a young boy or young person growing, by ending up in jail, why don’t you drop the idea of joining any of these groups of criminals- be it cultists, traffic robbers, armed robbers or kidnappers?”
The DCP said that kidnapping business was not thriving in the state because the criminals knew that when they did such, they would be tracked down as many others have been.
He said that partnership with various stakeholders and state government interventions in security matters had brought crimes to the barest minimum in the state.
Ali said that the command had been partnering with local vigilante groups, community leaders, youth leaders, religious leaders, among others to support in intelligence gathering, to track criminals in the state.
The police boss said that many criminals in the state had been tracked down, arrested and prosecuted, warning that no criminal would go untracked and unpunished.
Asked where had the state got it wrong with the increase in robbers and cultists, Ali said: “I don’t think we have got it wrong anywhere, because as we speak, Lagos today is the safest place to be in the whole of this country.
“Yes, I can beat my chest on that. Over a hundred people come into Lagos on a daily basis because of its peculiar nature as the economic nerve of the country and a commercial city.
“With all these, today in Nigeria, Lagos is adjudged to be the safest place to be in term of security. You can hardly hear of kidnapping in Lagos today.
“Lagos, just like any other city in the world, cannot pride itself to say there is no crime. There must be crime, but then, what is the degree of the crime? For now, we are on top of the situation.
“In the area of traffic robberies, we have put in strategies that are working for us, but we cannot eradicate crimes 100 per cent. Quite a number of traffic robbers have been arrested and charged to courts.”
The DCP, who noted that he just held a conference with all Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders and presented each person his or her scorecard, said that the police would not rest until criminal elements were crushed.
He said that the command had partnered the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Local Government chairmen among others to fight traffic robberies.
“Globally, no single person can fight crimes alone. The police cannot do it alone, that is why there is the need for that partnership.
“The partnership, taking into cognizance the issue of community policing, I want to say is working for us.
“We are partnering closely with all the stakeholders even in fighting cultism going down to secondary schools,” the police boss said.
He said that the command on June 16 held a meeting with members of Police Community Relations Committee on how to address issues of cultism in secondary schools and how to embark on sensitisation.
Ali said that cultism had marred and taken so many lives of young people, and the command was working to bring down the trend.
“Parents should talk to their wards and educate, warn them against belonging to associations that won’t help them. We also talk to National Orientation Agency (NOA) to carry out enlightenment programmes.
“We also partner with religious leaders, traditional leaders, youth leaders and others to educate school children against cultism.
“I am sure if all hands are put on deck, issues of cultism will be brought down to the nearest tolerable minimum,” he said.
Mr Wale Adeleye, the leader of the group, commended the Police for its efforts at making the state safe, urging the command not to relent until all residents could sleep with their two eyes closed.
